Solo Show, Don Haggerty
Moods of Ophelia
Moods of Ophelia documents one artist’s journey from a
single blank canvas to a room filled with art. For Seattle
artist, Don Haggerty, it began with a simple gift of inspiration
passed on to him by a fellow artist. That gift resulted in an oil
sketch, intended to become a single painting:
"“Ophelia—First Emergence” is a painting of mine that started out as an
oil sketch with intentions of becoming a “finished” painting. Problem
was, I liked it just the way it was, so I called it good. As a result,
this painting went on to inspire an
entire exhibition of works. Instead, it became
the seed for an entire exhibition."
Paintings, drawings,
sculpture. Poetry, music, video. Through a journey of
experimentation and discovery, all these forms of expression have
woven themselves together to become Moods of Ophelia.
Don’s hope is that you will experience some of the same
fascination that captivated him as you retrace the path he
traveled in producing the works of art for this exhibition. He
hopes, too, that in so doing you will share in the mystery of
inspiration, and perhaps leave with a renewed awareness of your
own sources of inspiration and your responses to them.
