VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Hello Mural Volunteers,

We are absolutely thrilled with the response to this year’s Paint By Tunnels project - it wouldn’t be possible without you -- so thank you in advance for signing up for this community effort. Here are a few helpful reminders about attending the event.

Dates:

• Saturday, Aug. 19 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Sunday, Aug. 20 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location:

• The tunnel is under SE 263rd Street on the Cedar-Green Rivers Trail

Parking:

• The Maple Valley City Farmers Market Overflow Parking Area will be open to volunteers to park on Saturday and Sunday – PLEASE NOTE: The lot will be closed and locked up at 4 p.m.
• Please be considerate if parking in nearby neighborhoods, be mindful to not block any driveways.
• Another option is to park at the very end of the parking lot near the Grocery Outlet. It's a short walk to the tunnel from there.

Reminders:

• Wear clothes/shoes that you do not care about getting paint on.
• Please arrive on time - to maximize your painting time.

What's the process...

• When you arrive for your volunteer time slot check in at the MVCAC volunteer tent/table.
•  Project Paint leads will provide instructions and painting supplies, then direct you to the locations where you will be painting.
•  After your volunteer hour is up, you will be directed to where you can drop off your supplies and clean up.

Lastly, if your circumstances have changed since signing up and you can no longer make it, please go to the volunteer sign up form and delete your spot. This year, we have limited spots, so we have quite a few people waiting on the sidelines to register if a spot opens.

Let's get ready to paint! It's time for Paint By Tunnels 2023 and we can't wait. This year promises to be just as fun as in years past, but we need your help to make it happen. The tunnel is smaller this year, so we will need volunteers to sign up for 1-hour painting slots as we can only fit approximately 20 peeps in the tunnel at one time- but of course, you can always sign-up for a second slot if you want more awesome painting time.

ABOUT PAINT BY TUNNELS

Maple Valley is a beautiful place to live, work and play. Paint By Tunnels is making it even more! We believe that our community is full of creative people. We believe that when we all come together to make something beautiful, our collective world becomes a little bit brighter; hearts soften, smiles proliferate, laughter is more frequently heard. Art is our vehicle of choice. We believe that an annual mural festival along our beloved Cedar to Green Rivers Trail will be a highlight to be shared by everyone.

Picture a day when members of the community and visitors walk the trail, meet and talk with artists, pick up a cup of paint and paint a section of a mural. Groups of teens stop for a selfie--or three. Local musicians are performing nearby. Food trucks, booths representing local businesses, face painters, and more performers are at the trail access points along the way. 

Our Paint By Tunnels project goals are to:

• Add fun, colorful, collaboratively created murals to the Cedar to Green Rivers Trail;
• Encourage use of the trail that runs through Maple Valley;
• Showcase local arts organizations and businesses in Maple Valley;
• Highlight collaboration in the community; and
• Bring the community together via public art.
