Frequently Asked Questions/Rules of Engagement
Q: What is Improv?
A: Improv is a performing art that requires no preparation. The whole idea is that you make up and improvise whatever you are doing. You could even say that you improve throughout the whole day. Every non-planned conversation you have with a friend or other is going to be improvised. It is a skill that allows you to effortlessly converse about whatever you need. OR Improv is the art of performing without preparation.
Q: Who can participate?
A: Open to anyone to join, all ages are encouraged.
Q: How does it work?
A: Come down to the Maple Valley Creative Arts Center and we will have a semi structured event that allows any group to perform an improv scene. The structure includes how the audience will participate and how long you are able to continue the scene for (there will be no limit to how short it is). Grab a friend and take a risk at improv night.
Q: Does the audience get to participate?
A: Yes! The audience will have many chances to participate. We will ask some basic questions at the start of each scene to help frame what the actors have to do within their time. There may also be instances where the performers on stage require audience participation within the scene itself.
Q: Is each month a themed event?
A: Although there is no guarantee that each month will be themed we may have a few special times when we try to keep the night themed a specific way.
Q: How will the event be organized each month?
A: Your hosts, John Riedel and Cole Wolf will provide a quick overview of how the night will go and the provide guidelines for participation from the audience and the actors at the start of the evening. If you have any further questions you can seek them out during the event or send us an email in advance and we will have someone respond. emails can be sent to MVCAC@comcast.net.
