How It Works
1. Mission Statement
The Youth Committee exists to empower young people in Maple Valley to create, collaborate, and lead. Our goal is to provide space, resources, and mentorship so that youth can organize artistic events and share their creativity with the community.
2. Meetings
Youth participants will come prepared with an organized event proposal. A proposal format and planning template will be provided in advance, accessible via a QR code on promotional materials.
During meetings, expect to see:
- Review of proposals
- Offer feedback and clarifying questions
- Determine feasibility and next steps
- Exchange relevant contacts and support resources
Proposals must be appropriate, achievable, and realistic with the support and resources available through MVCAC.
3. Youth-Led Event Planning
If a proposal is approved, the event lead (youth organizer) will take the primary role in planning and execution.
This includes:
- Managing timelines
- Coordinating logistics
- Recruiting volunteers if needed
MVCAC may assist if requested, but the intention is to give young creators meaningful leadership opportunities and a place to host their events.
4. MVCAC Support & Partnership
Events may be connected to a mentor.
For example:
A visual arts show may be directed to Jackie or Shannon (with their permission) for guidance or screening.
MVCAC may support events by providing:
- Access to CAC event space
- Contact information for venues or partners (e.g., the Lodge)
- Mentorship and advice
A board member may also be required to open or staff the building during events.
