The Maple Valley Creative Arts Council is pleased to present its SECOND community mural!
Partnering with the City of Maple Valley, King County Parks & Recreation Department, the Maple Valley Historical Society, The Maple Valley Community Center, and the Lake Wilderness Arboretum Foundation, the theme for this year's Paint By Tunnels mural was The History of Maple Valley. Located in the tunnel on the Cedar to Green Rivers Trail under Witte Road, near the Maple Valley Historical Society, the selection committee did a fabulous job in selecting MV resident and artist Jackie Riedel's proposal as her design definitely makes local and regional history interactive and publicly available.
For instance, as you walk through the tunnel, ask yourself some of these questions: How many buildings and sites do you recognize? How many chickens are in the mural? How many cows? What makes some of the structures and areas of the mural so iconic to Maple Valley? These are but a few questions you can also use to engage children, youth, and visitors as you walk the trail.
In the coming weeks you'll see Jackie working on outlining her design and adding a few details. We hope you agree that her mural captures the history of Maple Valley and provides a wonderful interactive art experience.
