| | Kicking off July with a BANG!
We enjoyed participating in Maple Valley's annual Independence Day Celebration this year! Highlights included MV Idol, Jr. winner Lucy Organ's performance of the National Anthem and MVCAC Council Member Brian Organ's judging skills during the Pie Baking contest. It was a pleasure to see our community come together like that, and we hope you had as much fun as we did!
King County Council Member Reagan Dunn stopped by the completed Witte Road tunnel to show his support for public art projects like Paint By Tunnels. He has long supported the MVCAC and helped the arts council secure partial funding for the completed Witte Road tunnel and, more recently, pledged support for the newest project in Four Corners. His office encouraged the arts council to apply for one of the 2023 Alan M. Painter awards. $3,000 was awarded and will go towards completing the latest Paint By Tunnel project scheduled in August. We are so grateful for his commitment to ensuring these fantastic public artworks come to fruition!
And while we are on the subject, registration is coming soon for our next PAINT BY TUNNELS 2023 mural project. This year's tunnel is under SE 263rd Street on the Cedar to Green River Trail. Due to the smaller size of this tunnel, we can only accommodate a limited number of volunteers at one time – so we plan to schedule 1-hour time slots on Aug. 19-20. We will send a registration sign-up form later this month via email and post on our Facebook and Instagram pages - so keep an eye out for the announcement! We look forward to making our community even brighter together!
Speaking of supporting our community and the Arts, save the date for MERRIMENT, our Fall Fundraising Gala, to be held at the Lake Wilderness Lodge on Friday, Nov. 3rd. Email us if you want to donate a basket, bottles of wine, gift cards or certificate, or an item for the silent auction.
Also – while we have your attention – we have a terrific play coming your way in November, written and directed by MVCAC Council Member Ed Corrigan. The play is called TRINITY, and the show dates are Nov. 10, 11, 17, and 18th.
In brief, we have a LOT going on and are always open to new ideas, suggestions, and perspectives.

Our hero Johnny Rocket-Space Commander is sent on a secret mission to Earth in a time warp from 2098 to the summer of 1965 at Muscle Head Beach. As Johnny encounters kooky surfers, beach bunnies, a goofy police squad, and a super polite French Canadian bicycle gang, something very strange happens that will change Johnny’s life…forever.
Join the swinging sixties beach fun as Flunky Avalame and Gi Gi Gi go ape to the crazy sound of MMT’s very own Cheese Adjusters.
Starring Ryan Asbert, Rob Bowker, Lindsey Dabek, Chris Mathews, Dean T. Moody, and John Ruoff and Special Guests-Jalyn Green and Hilary Heinz Luthi
